About me
My name is Leonor de Oliveira and I am a Portuguese clinical psychologist and sex therapist that moved to Minneapolis in January 2024. Yes, right in the middle of the winter. For someone who hadn't really dealt with snow before, this has been quite an adventure. Salt and sand is much closer to home - which is Lisbon, btw, one of the most gentrified cities in Europe (we will talk about it).
I am entering year 2 of my 2-year postdoc program at the Institute for Sex and Gender Health at the University of Minnesota. I am settled in and have been feeling that it's about time to go back to one of things I enjoy the most: evidence based sex ed. I want to share and exchange knowledge with the community I am in. This is something I have done before in my home country and native language with prontoadespir and it was a true delight. I ended up publishing a book and everything.
I grew a lot from the discussions and exchanges with the Portuguese community and am very curious with what I am about to learn with folx from the Twin Cities and beyond. I am particularly interested in decolonizing my thought and work and believe I could not have landed in a better place to do so.
What else? I am white bisexual millenial cis-women who grew up learning about the quintessencial myth of the Portuguese "discoveries" and who has been working toward deconstructing these colonial ideas within myself and others. Still have lots to learn and you can call me out on it. As I share knowledge, I know I will get tons in return, and I am already thankful for it.
My personal moto in life is "do good for others and have pleasure". My hope is for the theboredsexologist do exactly that.
Talk to you soon,
Leonor
